What is Folio?
Folio is a Flash application developed by ThoughtCorp that enhances the experience of reading documents or publications on a computer screen. Folio allows readers to view a document in 'book' format (i.e. two pages open in front of you), and navigate intuitively by simply turning the pages.

How does Folio work?
Folio makes use of Macromedia Flash Paper technology. This enables the client to print documents to Folio from any source file or pdf document. Folio is not your typical page turner and does not use the open source page flip code available online. Most other page turners either rely on custom making each swf file for each page or creating jpegs for each page. Folio is a mature product and is unique in that it works from converted pdf, word document and any other publication format that can be printed to flash paper. One of the added benefits is that all text in the document is searchable so there is no need for time consuming meta data files.

What features does Folio offer?
As well as offering animation layers and interactive form layers Folio also offers the following features:

  • Searches within the actual document content - not just keywords like other products.
  • User and index bookmarks.
  • Users can add notes and comments to the document.
  • Folio stores its last state when you return.
  • Shortcuts on the desktop and Favourites.
  • Highlighting important text.
  • An eraser to delete notes and highlights.
  • An autoturn Feature for presentation mode
  • Keyboard support for page turning and zooming
  • Setup options for performance
  • Zooming in and out of the document as well as panning.
  • Reading mode and full page document mode.
  • Animation layers supported through XML
  • Forms supported through XML
